I see at least two big problems with the idea of 'karma'. first, those that believe in karma believe that if you do good deeds good things will happen to you, and vise versa for bad deeds. The problem with this is that, um, good things can happen to 'bad people' and bad things can happen to 'good people'. The amount of good deeds you do does not determine the amount of good that happens to you. Secondly, the idea of karma is incredibly self-centered and selfish. It suggests that people try to do good things so that good things will happen to THEM. Does that not undermine the good deed by causing the motives for that deed to be 'what can i get out of this?" Should truly good deeds not be done with a giving and loving heart? Done for a person while thinking of how you want good things for THEM?
Anyways, just some thoughts I have on how ridiculous the idea of karma is. I do believe that doing evil is going to create a lot of 'bad things' in a person's life, but I do not believe in a reward system for good deeds done.
The funny thing is...if you think of these issues as 'problems' with karma, then i have the solution!
JESUS!! amazing, right?!
Jesus changes hearts. He helps correct those selfish desires (though as humans chances are good those desires will never be gone, but he helps us want to do good for others because we love them). There is no reward system. Do good to please God. Do bad to please Satan and anger God. Thats pretty much how I see it. As we know, salvation, or "the ultimate good" cannot be earned. It is a gift given to those who just make the choice to say "hey, im a sinner, i don't want to be anymore, i want a changed heart and life AKA i don't want to be a selfish jerk anymore, I believe, God, that your son Jesus died on the cross so that this can happen and I pray that I can be forgiven for all of the bad ive done in the past, and that you can help me, Jesus, move forward from here living a life of love." To me, this sounds like the perfect solution to the flawed theory of karma.
in other news....
averly threw up hardcore earlier tonight. im afraid of it happenning again, it was quite smelly and gross. plus, i hate her not feeling well.
im craking down on diciplining her. I believe dicipline is a life and death matter and i am truly fascinated with the psychology of it.
i am so sleepy right this second.
im going to write a love poem for averly tomorrow and post it. so that if the internet is still around when she learns to read, she can read it and go awwww thanks mommy =)
speaking of reading, she is loving me reading to her, which is awesome! she even tries to read to me, so cute!
we really miss papa and noni and momo
averly is liking to cuddle lately. We have this new routine before she goes to sleep where she lays in bed, we read a few books, then we turn the lights off and pray, then she says 'cu'lle with mommies" which means she wants to cuddle. and i lay my head on her pillow and she hugs me and goes 'awwww'. i love her so much- little stinkin cutie pie face!
